The toddler used in these pictures to illustrate the child’s hand support rail is 21 months old, you can see from the images that the step is level with his knees and without this support rail he would need to rely on the door jamb for support.
Statistics show that 40,000 children are admitted to A&E every year for finger injury resulting from door injuries, 60% from front and back doors.
Some of these injuries resulted in simple but painful bruising to corrective surgery and in some cases sadly to say severing and amputations.
